Pānini

Today, we will start our fascinating series about the popular linguists throughout the history passing by the B.C. to the modern era.

Linguistics, the scientific study of language and its structure, is a charming field. The world may not be as we know it today without the influence of several important linguists.

Pāṇini (Sanskrit: पाणिनि) was an ancient Sanskrit philologist, grammarian, and a respected scholar in ancient India. He is considered "the father of linguistics" who appeared in the 4th Century B.C.

He is known for his contribution to the grammar. As Panini’s grammar, is widely known as the ‘Ashtadhyayi’, is acclaimed by linguists all over the world as the most perfect model of grammar.

Well known Western scholar, L. Bloomfield described Panini’s grammar as ‘one of the greatest monuments of human intelligence’.

Panini has the same respect even today in the history of any language and its grammar.
